It is very difficult to explain why the sexes should be affected differently, however here are two suggested reasons for this anomaly. Firstly it is speculated that girls with Autism may be better at masking their differences in order to fit in with their peers, and in general have a more even profile of social skills. Secondly, some people believe that there is a genetic explanation to Autism and suggest that the Autism gene is carried in the X chromosome.
