Can Children on the Autistic Spectrum cope in mainstream school?

Anna Van Der Post who wrote 'Children and Teenagers with Asperger's Syndrome' sent me the following post.

We are hearing of cases where children are being excluded because they cannot cope with a normal school setting and therefore become stressed and behave badly. LEAs are then trying to wriggle out of their responsibility to provide a special and more appropriate school by claiming that the child can control and help their behaviour. This proves to me that schools are not equipped to understand and deal with non-physical special needs other than mild cases of aspergers and LEAs do not understand or choose not to. Are other parents having this problem and how have other parents fought this point at tribunal.

Please contact us on this one.
